Behold Bryan Gil’s parents – his cute Dad and a look-alike Mother.
Growing-Up:
The Spaniard spent the earliest moment of his childhood years at L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, a municipality located to the immediate southwest of Barcelona.
Raquel and Alfonso had their first son in a town which is just a 10-minute drive to FC Barca stadium – Camp Nou.
For reasons unknown, Bryan Gil’s parents moved their family – from L’Hospitalet de Llobregat to the town of Barbate (their hometown). Gil spent most of his childhood days in Barbate, a municipality in Spain.
As a child, none of Gil’s family members thought he would become a footballer. Although he enjoys kicking the ball, NOBODY thought his small body was up to the task.
As a child, Bryan played soccer in the street, especially with children much older than him.
Early on, the boy (just like CR7 – in his childhood days) formed the habit of crying whenever he could not make successful dribbles past his opponents.
Upon returning home, Bryan Gil would keep practising and then implement (outside) until it worked.
The Day a Neighbour Found His Destiny:
Bryan Gil’s parents’ decision – to allow him to begin a professional career in football came from his neighbour.
It all happened on a blessed day when the precocious Whiz Kid dribbled the life out of several older boys in a street soccer game.
As Gil dribbled (in quick succession) past one, two, and the third opponents, one of his neighbours (an elderly man) watched from a distance. He was mesmerized by Gil’s magical dribbling skills.
This man couldn’t hold himself upon observing the boy was so good. Also, the way he dribbles past his opponent with ease.
Immediately, he ran to meet Bryan Gil’s parents (first his Mum) – to convince her to allow her son to pursue a football career. In his words,
Why don’t you point this boy to soccer as he plays very well?
Your son is left-handed, moves fast, and has a lot of mischief with the ball.
Always with a happy heart, Raquel Salvatierra (Bryan Gil’s Mum) still remembers these words today. Expressing her gratitude to this man, she once told the Press;
Whenever I meet my old neighbour who discovered my son, he tells me…
‘thank goodness you still remember everything I said.

Because of this, Alfonso Gil lost his job in a construction company. He, together with his household, had nothing to depend on.
After the loss of his job, starvation and hardship crept in. The effect of that shook his entire family. In order to save his household from poverty, Bryan Gil’s Dad (Alfonso) accepted all kinds of menial jobs.
First, the father of two worked as a plumber. Alphonso later worked as a gardener and then as an electrician. He did all these jobs – before his son’s football money salvaged the situation.

Back in the day, little Gil was the smallest among his teammates. Because of that, his coaches – especially Manuel Quintero, the director of Cádiz – had to pet him.
Upon joining Barbate Academy, nobody got aware that Gil was a Superstar in the making. A few training sessions were just enough for everyone at the Cádiz club to realize – that the little boy with long hair had something very special.
Back then, People called Gil (The Russian) because he looked like Ivan Drago, the actor from Rocky IV.
Bryan displayed his personality by always walking with a ball in his hands. Until he was six years old, the little charm was sleeping with a ball at the foot of the bed – says his Mum, Raquel Salvatierra.
While at Barbate Academy, the quality of Bryan’s dribbling improved. Bryan Gil got popular for his confidence and trickery with the ball. With the ball at his feet, all opponents tremble with fear.
Like Phil Foden (when he was little), he had this adhesive control and the knack of drifting past opponents – like they never existed.
Sevilla FC did not take long to notice these qualities – thus making plans to see the boy’s parents.
Thanks to Gil’s trademark creativity and flair, the rising star helped his academy team win his very first trophy.

there are almost 180 kilometers between Barbate and Seville.
These were the words of one of Sevilla’s academy staff. Out of their kind heart and magnanimity, the club offered to fuel Bryan Gil’s dad’s car for a period of four years.
The most Alfonso drove to Seville (from Barbate) was four days a week. While his Dad drove his car (for 180 kilometres) to Seville, Bryan would ensure he read his school notebooks and did his homework – while in the car.
To make it to training on time, Bryan, his Mum and Dad had to leave home (even before daybreak and school time). With such transportation help, Gil (pictured below) never missed out.
