Like many other youngsters, he joined top local Adelaide sides Adelaide Raiders because of the need to face bigger competition. This is one of the best academies in Adelaide, whose team plays in the South Australian Super League. With this club, Craig Goodwin achieved successful academy graduation and turned pro.
In 2009, his professional football journey began with Adelaide Raiders. Craig stayed there for a season before spending a further two seasons with Oakleigh Cannons and Melbourne Heart. On 7 May 2012, joined Newcastle Jets, where he played alongside Emile Heskey.
