Career Buildup:

Having a Dad as a Nottingham Forest Legend, little Brennan gained some instant benefits. One of which was him being one of the little mascots for the club.

At the tender age of three, young Brennan had begun his mascot duties. Here is a 2004 photo of the youngster with his Dad just before a Nottingham Forest match.

Brennan idolized players Robert Earnshaw and his Dad while grew up in West Bridgford. As a child, he saw his Dad score so many goals for Forest… but failed in one single mission.

That mission was David’s inability to help Nottingham Forest get to the Premier League in May 2003.

David, a prolific striker during his time, suffered a short-lived career.

David, a prolific striker during his time, suffered a short-lived career.

In that match, David Johnson scored twice, but Nottingham Forest lost the match to Sheffield (5-4) on aggregate. After failing to get Nottingham Forest to the Premier League, David Johnson cried his heart out.

From that day, he branded the event as an unfinished family business. This unfinished business suddenly became a demon that haunted David Johnson for years.

The demon of football got a better hold of Brennan Johnson’s Dad. Next, he began suffering from injuries. Brennan Johnson’s Dad developed unbearable back pain, which threatened his career.

His internal back injury got worse each time he played football. Because he could no longer bear it, Brennan Johnson’s Dad had to quit football at the age of 31.

Brennan Johnson Biography – Football Story:

It was hard for David to deal with quitting the game so early. After he retired, it was impossible for him to escape the thought of his son’s mission, which is no other than putting his footballing ghosts to rest. From the moment of hanging up his boots, David began working on his 6-year-old Bren. All he wanted was for little Brennan to re-live the family dream.

Brennan Johnson started playing his football with Dunkirk and not Nottingham Forest. This is a small local club which has proximity to his family home in West Bridgford, Nottingham. It was in the humble football surroundings of Dunkirk that young Brennan began his journey.

Dunkirk FC was where it all began, where Brennan kicked his first official football.

Dunkirk FC was where it all began, where Brennan kicked his first official football.

Brennan’s Dad approved his enrolment at Dunkirk FC because of his ties with the club. Research has it that David Johnson became the chairman of this club. It was one of Brennan Johnson’s dad’s first jobs after having his playing career cut short by injury. A few years after retirement, his Dad tried to revive his career. Sadly, David’s comeback was short-lived. The poor Dad (still with his back injury) could only play a few games.

His strength could only take him to play for The Boatmen in the United Counties League Division One. With more back injuries, David’s career suffered an abrupt end again. As his football story was ending, that of his son was only just beginning with Nottingham Forest. To the joys of Brennan Johnson’s family, their last-born child passed Forest trials in 2007.

From the moment he played his last football match, David knew his son would take on the mantle of leadership.

Joining the academy was like a farewell gift to his Dad’s career, which had just faded away.

The Difficult Journey to Fame:

The youngster began his Forest life at the age of eight after impressing coaches during a trial. Brennan could not believe his talent would interest Forest at the time they signed him. Early on, all he wanted was to play football.

At Nottingham Forest, they let kids enjoy the game, and they don’t take them very seriously until they get older. As kids get older and closer to the first team, they start to work really hard. At this time, the club installs the traits that kids need to blossom.

While the club does that, Brennan Johnson’s Dad finds time to perform private training with his son. David did that during the holidays, a time that helped Bren to test his skills more.

Aside from David, Alison also got involved, especially in her son’s mental development. At the age of 12, things had already begun getting serious in his career. Every interaction between Alison and her son was more about the future.

As she braced him up for the arduous journey that lies ahead, little did Brennan know that trouble was coming his way.

During his Forest Academy days, Brennan took lots of advice from his Mum, Alison.

In the early years, Brennan became this midfielder, known for his passing ability rather than his pace. Before his injury, he used to play a deep-lying role and was not physical.

Brennan Johnson’s parents (notably his Dad) indoctrinated him with a fierce drive. It was such that helped him overcome his bad knee injury and led him to more post-recovery wins.

One of many such wins was Brennan Johnson’s induction into the England u-16 team. England, at this time, had begun to tap into the boy’s electric pace and footballing brain.

The 20-year-old finally cleared his father’s demons. Brennan helped Forest back into the Premier League for the first time in his lifetime. By helping Forest to the EPL, Bren earned a new four-year deal.

Making Daddy Happy Again:

At last, David Johnson’s hard work paid off. The father of three was proud to see his only son redeeming the lost family image in front of 90,000 soccer fans at Wembley.

Judging from his failed promotion attempt in May 2003, it took 19 years for his son to kill the ghost that haunted Brennan Johnson’s Dad. Through his son, David finally claimed the trophy he lost in 2003.

David Anthony is a Jamaican former footballer, born to a British Mum (from Bermingham). After migrating to the UK as a child, he began playing for the England Schoolboys team. David, in his youth, was one of the brightest football kids in England. This is the reason Man United signed him. Following his football retirement, he became a scout with Chelsea FC.

David, a British Jamaican, is a man who is currently re-living his dreams through his son.

Fans have asked why David Johnson’s son plays for Wales despite his England origin. As a British passport holder born outside the UK, FIFA gave his Dad the choice to pick a nation. After rejecting Northern Ireland, David chose Wales.

At that time, his former United teammate, Mark Hughes, managed the Welsh team. Sadly, injuries made David not to be regular with the Welsh national team.

By virtue of his Father’s affiliation with Wales, Brennan was eligible to represent the nation. He was also eligible to represent Jamaica, the home of his paternal grandparents. Brennan started out with England before switching to Aaron Ramsey’s Wales side in 2018.

So therefore, the decision to play for Wales is not because Brennan Johnson has Welsh family roots. It is purely because of his Dad’s earlier registration with the Welsh national team.

On a final note about David Johnson, he remains popular among football legends. Popular among them are Michael Owen, David Beckham and Gianfranco Zola. These Legends love David Johnson because of his friendly, funny and honest nature. His Dad appears to be a funny man.
