The Argentine retired from playing football in 2015. Lionel began his coaching career by working as an assistant to Jorge Sampaoli.

After his country’s disappointing 2018 FIFA World Cup, he found his way to become the coach of Argentina. Scaloni, in 2021 and 2022, led his country to win the Copa America and the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions. The Argentine is married to his wife (Elisa Montero) and has two sons, Ian and Noah Scaloni.
