Born in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 29, 2003—just a month after Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich acquired Chelsea Football Club—Renato entered a world that would soon revolve around the sport. His parents, Nelson and Tania Veiga, embraced the arrival of their first child, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
As the eldest of three, Renato grew up in a household built on strong family values, where love, mutual respect, and a close father-son bond were the foundation. His younger sister, Lura, joined the family shortly after, followed by their younger brother in November 2015, completing the Veiga family’s joyful trio.
Renato’s journey is one shaped not just by his passion for football but also by the strong support of his family, and we’re excited to share the hidden chapters of his life.
Raised in a nurturing and encouraging setting, Renato naturally developed a strong interest in sports. His father, Nelson, was an active footballer until his retirement in 2017. While Tania Veiga wasn’t a footballer, she had her sporty side. A fitness enthusiast, Renato’s mom enjoyed boxing to stay healthy and active.
After retiring from football, the left-back’s dad, Nelson, explored new opportunities to support his family. He became a FIFA-certified agent and founded a sports management agency called Mondo Victory, with his son Renato as his first client. Renato Veiga’s parents also ventured into the travel industry, launching a “Traveller Hostess” business offering travel packages and booking services.

Renato Veiga Childhood Story:
For Biography starters, Renato Palma Veiga was born on Tuesday, 29th of July 2003, to his parents- his father, Nelson Veiga and his mother, Tania Leiria Palma, in Lisbon, Portugal.
The left-back is the first of three children in this loving couple’s blissful marriage. We introduce you to Renato Veiga’s parents, who have shown their kids the meaning of pure love and instilled a beautiful way of life in their careers and personal lives.
Early Childhood:
Renato Veiga grew up in Lisbon, Portugal, with his family. Nelson Veiga, the head of the house, was a wonderful father who loved and adored his home, while his mother, Tania, blossomed in a blissful feminine aura, as you have noticed above. The birth of their first son after six years of marriage was an overwhelming mix of joy. They finally hold a tiny person who is a beautiful blend of both in their arms.
The family increased after Renato Veiga’s sister, Lura, was born. Finally, the left back had a sibling with whom he could run around and have fun. But his parents were still in progress and wanted another offspring. Four hundred fifty-two weeks back, on the 24th of November, 2015 (calculated at the time of writing), Tania is seen with a baby bump in the photo below. Excitement is written on all the faces of members of the household. The children debated whether a male or female was coming into the house.
Nelson Veiga, Renato’s father, has always been a man with a loving heart. The former footballer was not reserved in public adoring for his children or wife. In actions and words, he showed his family what it meant to love and appreciate the little things in life. Every moment, the head of the Veiga household had them go to the beach and celebrate the holidays together. In simple terms, Nelson was an intentional husband and father to his three kids.
Growing-Up Years:
Renato Veiga comes from an athletic family. Renato Veiga’s dad was a very active footballer who retired in 2017. So even when his child began his career, Nelson still had his profession going for him. And so football was a family affair; as the males in the house were always practising their skills and techniques at home and on the field for the fun of it and to become better in the sport.
While Renato Veiga’s mother wasnt a footballer, she was also into sports. Did you know?… Tania did boxing in a non-professional setting, and so she trained alongside her husband to keep fit. Invariably, it meant that the only daughter in the home helped join her mom in being healthy, and so it turned into a family affair. A family that sweats together stays together as it strengthens the bond and harmony of the home.
Renato Veiga Family Background:
Nelson Viega is a very hardworking man, and he proved so during his years as a footballer. Now, let’s backtrack to learn the family story of Renato Viega’s father. The Cape Verden native began his journey in Lisbon and, for years, made breakthroughs in the sports he loves. Anyhow, football wasn’t the only thing that caught Nelson’s attention.
Renato Viega’s father met his wife on a bright and wonderful day. Nelson didn’t just want to date Tania; he wanted to live forever with her. That is what the retired footballer did; he proposed and chose his son’s mother as his wife. Now, see the beautiful couple looking gorgeous and in marital bliss on their wedding day.
While Nelson focused on his career, Renato Veiga’s mother also took her boxing training while keeping the home warm with great meals. As their children came along, the couple put heads to manage the finances and care for the additional blessings to their home. Even though Nelson’s career didn’t get to the English Premier League, the head of the house kept things running smoothly. Most importantly, Nelson and Tania keep their love burning hard as the years pass.
With the dwindling economy and three children to cater for, Renato Viega’s father, after his retirement, looked into the entrepreneurial part of his former job. Nelson took up the role of becoming a FIFA-certified agent. He began a sports management agency called Mondo Victory, and his first client was no other than his son Renato. That’s not the only thing he did; with his wife Tania, Nelson began another small business called the “traveller hostess”. As the name suggests, it’s a travel agency that provides booking services and other travel packages.
In a nutshell, Renato Viega’s family was not wealthy but far from poor. The couple was deeply in love and incredibly hardworking. Nelson, in particular, took it upon himself to ensure his boys, especially his first son, were well-trained to continue his football legacy. The Cape Verdean retired footballer was certain that his son would go far in his career.
Family Life:
From the shores of Portugal, the strength and resilience of a family move through and land in London in the Premier League; this journey shows how household members would sacrifice for their child. And this is true in the history of one of Chelsea’s left-backs, Renato.
Even though he did not grow up in financial wealth, his parents, Nelson and Tiana, showed him how love can create pillars of unity and commitment. Hence, let’s learn about the beautiful members of Veiga’s home.
About Renato Veiga’s Father:
Nelson César Tavares Rodrigues da Veiga came to earth on the 9th of Feb 1978 in Lisbon, Portugal. He had a 20-year career as a central defender. He began his career in local clubs like Agualva (1988 to 1990), Sporting Cp (1990 to 1991), and Estrela Amadora (1993). Renato’s father moved to the team Estoril’s senior squad after four years. On the 1st of Jul, 2000, he left to join Vitória de Setúbal. Two years passed, and Nelson moved to Naval 1º de Maio in 2003 while helping this club to their first promotion.
Leaving the shores of Portugal, Renato Veiga’s dad became a team member of AC Omonia and AEK Larnaca FC for four seasons. There were times when he was without a club in the 10/11 season, but he eventually returned to his birth country and signed up for the Vilafranquense. It was there that Nelson stayed before his retirement, ending his football journey.
Athletic Director role:
However, Nelson made a strategic shift to sports management, with his son embarking on his sports career. He became a FIFA-certified agent and founded Mundo Victory, a sports business management company. His first client, his son, is now a successful Premier League athlete with a lucrative contract, a testament to Nelson’s business skills.
As a parent, there’s no greater joy than seeing your children succeed. Nelson uniquely experienced this joy as he played a pivotal role in his son’s football journey. Renato entrusted his career to his father, and Nelson’s guidance and support led to his son’s successful career in the Premier League.
About Renato Veiga’s Mother:
Tania Leiria Palma is Nelson’s loving wife and the Chelsea Left-back’s birth mother. As her husband is a footballer, she towed in the line of boxing, although on a non-professional level. Nonetheless, it shows she joins the family in their fitness race, never slacking down. Aside from being a supportive parent, Renato’s mother is also the pillar of the home.
Her endless care for house members has been fruitful all these years. Looking back on when she married Renato’s father, we can say Tania has no regrets. By her side is her husband, who publicly adores her daily, and on the other side are her children, who are making great strides in their different endeavours. Nevertheless, she also takes time to begin her travel hostess business with her partner, building her business daily.
About Renato Veiga’s Siblings:
Being an only child could be fantastic, but having a sister and a brother is perfect. That was precisely how the former Basel footballer felt when his two siblings appeared. Renato’s sister, Lura Veiga, who turned 17 5 weeks ago, according to the post their dad, Nelson, made, has grown into a wonderful young lady. Granted, we have no information on whether she’s still in high school or has begun her career path, but we are sure that the only daughter in the home is spoilt and silly, with massive love and attention.
Renato Veiga’s brother is the youngest and last child of the home. However, despite his age, the lad joins his parents in their workout sessions. We suspect Nelson would also steer his other boy into the football world. Nonetheless, it is still too early to picture what career line he would want for himself. All the left-back siblings keep his heart bursting with pride as they cheer him from the sidelines.

While they speak Portuguese as their official language, Cape Verdean Creole (Kriolu) is their native tongue.
Renato Veiga’s mother is also Portuguese. Tania, a first name, is more common in Portuguese-speaking countries and is often a variant of Tatiana. Leiria is a surname and the name of a city and district in central Portugal. Meanwhile, Palma, another surname of Portuguese origin, means “palm” (as in the tree or the hand).

It is also among the oldest European capital cities after Athens and Rome. It is home to three football teams: Benfica, which holds 38 league titles and two European cups; Sporting Cp, which has 20 league titles and a UEFA CUP; and Belenses, which has just a league title. Renato Veiga’s Ethnicity:

Early Career:
Renato Veiga’s father, who is in charge of his son’s career, needed his young lad to be focused on the game. Instead of a 100% formal school setting, Nelson enrolled his son in the Sporting CP academy. It is the first and only sports institute with a quality certification award recognized internationally and locally. Moreover, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Leao are both iconic alumni of the said academy.
The rookie joined Sporting CP in 2010 when he was seven. Renato stayed with the academy for three years before moving to Real Massamá. This football club was founded in 1951 in Queluz and is a 30-minute drive from Renato Veiga’s hometown in Lisbon. Nelson’s son stayed with this team for six years, from 2013 to 2019.
The following season, Veiga returned, joined the Sporting Cp B squad, and left the youth academy. At this point, the Portuguese athlete was ready for a new adventure outside the youth team. He made his debut on the 12th of September 2020, and the following month, his first goal.
Renato Veiga Road to Fame:
On the 31st of January 2023, in the 22/23 season, Renato went on a loan transfer to Augsburg. The former Bundesliga left-back made his debut after two months in a losing game against Mainz in February. The Lisbon player Veiga was underperforming, and after six months, Augsburg ended the loan before its expiration in December 2023. Sadly, he had to return to his parent team, Sporting CP.
Veiga’s return from the Bundesliga on the 15th of August marked a significant shift in his career. Just 15 days later, on the 28th, he made another bold move, this time to Basel in the Swiss Super League. His arrival was amidst the departure of Riccardo Calafiori to Bologna and the joining of Zeki Amdouni. Renato, who had previously struggled to find his form at FC Augsburg, surprised everyone by scoring his first goal in his debut against the St. Jakob Park club, reigniting the belief in his talent.
Although the deal with Basel was supposed to last for four years, it was cut short by Enzo Maresca‘s Chelsea-led team, which signed him on a seven-year contract on the 12th of July 2024. The now EPL left-back made same-season arrivals with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (CM), Pedro Neto (LW), Tosin Adarabioyo and João Félix (his second return).
The immense joy that Renato Veiga’s parents must have felt is beyond what we can pen down upon observing their son sealing a deal with Chelsea. Most especially Nelson Veiga, his father, whose reason for managing his son was to ensure he got his career right to the point he could not.
Internationally, the Lisbon-born footballer has played for his country, Portugal, since 2021, when he started with the under-19 team. Till 2023, Renato is now a part of the under-21 squad. As per Potugugoal, the son of the soil has received his call to join the senior team. The rest is history, they said.

Nevertheless, we know that for one who has grown up with a loving father like Nelson, the Premier League player is continuing the cycle of love that he learnt from his parents. Maybe someday, he will take the woman he adores and seal the forever deal with her.
Throughout his childhood, the former Sporting CP left-back has seen first-hand how his father lovingly treats and takes care of his mother. It’s the little things, the public display of affection daily on Nelson’s Instagram, how he gushes and tells his wife he loves her. And all these lessons of love stayed with Renato till his adulthood phase. When he was ready, Renato saw that he was a reflection of the beautiful love legacy his parents had.
