To kick off his biography, Tyrone Deon Mings was born on March 13, 1993, in Bath, United Kingdom, to his mother, Dawn Johnson, and his father, Adrian, also known as Adie Mings. As the only son among his three sisters, Tyrone was raised by his parents, who come from diverse multiracial backgrounds.

Did you know? Bath, the city where Tyrone Mings was born, is also notable as the birthplace of the famous singer Rihanna. Additionally, during the early 19th century, the area was a significant English hub for the African slave trade, particularly around 1807, when it was a wealthy sugar colony.

Tyron Mings had a tough early life while he grew up alongside his mum and three sisters.

As a little boy, he witnessed the dwindling relationship between his mum and dad as they got separated, after which his mum took him and his sisters away.

At first, they went on to live with a close friend of his mum in Chippenham (a Town in England) as there was no other alternative.

One day, both Mings, his mum and sisters, due to the inconveniences they were causing, decided to leave the place, having no other place to go and no monies to get another home.

While explaining his poor family background and upbringing in an interview, he said life was turned upside down when they were further faced with no other option than to live in a homeless shelter.

While at the shelter, Mings, his mother, Dawn and three sisters all shared two bunk beds.

Not everyone at the shelter was nice to them. Both mothers, sons and daughters lived a horrendous life as nearly everything was publicly shared, name it…; washing area, toilets, communal showers, etc.

Education and Career Buildup:

While living in the homeless shelter, Tyrone Mings felt the need to go to school in order to make something out of his life.

Away from school, football became his salvation and only source of solace away from troubling realities.

Being better than every other kid in the game, Tyrone Mings knew he had the talent and could make something out of his life with football.

Considering the hardship he faced at that time, all he wanted was to use football to uplift his poor family background.

In order to achieve a good career start, he began to get himself more often into the local football pitches, learning his football trade as a tough & diminutive defender.

Back then, while he played football, spectators who knew the Tyrone Mings family story with the homeless shelter showed him some respect + encouragement as they never doubted that he was heading in the right direction.

Tyrone Mings Biography – Early Career Life:

The pride of his mother and sisters knew no bounds when lucky Mings, through hard work and determination, was called upon to attend football trials with Southampton Academy.

At the age of eight (the year 2001), Mings was enrolled in the academy after passing trials with flying colours.

Upon joining, it was fun for the young defender. But young Tyrone Mings had to make a lot of sacrifices in order to grow through the academy ranks.

Being in one of the best academies in England, one which has brought up world-class talents- the likes of Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale etc, there was indeed huge competition for places and also threats of ejections.

The year 2009 was indeed the saddest year for the Tyrone Mings family. The promising defender got released by Saints in 2009 (aged 15) when the academy claimed it was as a result of its youth budget being axed.

Tyrone Mings fell victim not only because of a so-called ‘budget cut‘ but also because the club accused him of being too skinny or lightweight.

Little did they know they were making a huge mistake releasing a future 6 feet 5 inches (Tyrone Mings height) hulking frame and also a future England international player.

Road to Fame Story:

For any footballer who comes from a poor background and has faced rejection from a football academy, the emotional pain and psychological impact can be profound.

At just 15, feeling disillusioned with the game, Tyrone Mings decided to quit football. It was a tough and disheartening decision.

Seeking a new direction, Tyrone started looking for work in Chippenham, a historic market town in northwest Wiltshire, England. His first job was at a pub, where he served pints for a modest salary of £45 per week.

Tyrone sought additional employment opportunities to make ends meet and cover his bills.

Mings finally got a mortgage advising job (a mortgage advisor), a job good enough to pay his bills. While working, he attended Millfield School in Somerset for two years.

The school, after hearing his heart-felt rejection story, was kind enough to offer him a football scholarship, a feat that made Mings reverse his mind and go back to football.

Rising to Fame:

After leaving school, Mings scholarship got him into the non-league side of Yate Town in Gloucestershire. There, the poor lad began to fight his way up. In the summer of 2012, he got uplifted as he was accepted by his home town team Chippenham Town. The club gave him the opportunity to attend several trials elsewhere as he had outgrown the squad thanks to his qualities.

After failed trials at Cardiff City, Swindon Town, Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers, Mings, with a never-say-die spirit, caught the attention of former Ipswich defender Russell Osman, who decided to help him.

As luck would have it, Osman recommended Mings to Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy, who invited him for a trial.

Rather than crumble in Ipswich town, the diminutive defender grew from strength to strength, moving from near-zero to an undoubted hero and repaying back his boss (destiny helper) with his fine, impressive displays.

The beginning of his breakthrough came when he bagged the Championship Player of the Month award in the 2014/2015 season. This feat attracted Premier League clubs who begged on their knees for his signature.

On 26 June 2015, Mings signed for AFC Bournemouth. In order to avoid competing for places, he accepted a loan move to Aston Villa.

This decision saw a huge turning point in his career. Tyrone Ming’s strength, as seen below, differentiated him from his peers.

At Villa, the gigantic 6-foot-5 defender endured a meteoric rise to prominence. He became one of the star men who helped Villa in winning the 2019 EFL Championship play-offs.

After helping Aston Villa to a promotion, Mings, like Douglas Luiz, became a firm fans’ favourite. In no time, he became one of the hottest defensive properties in England.

Such a rise earned him a place in the England national team. It also earned him an English national team debut, which was overshadowed by racist chants from Bulgarian fans.

Behold, the little boy who once lived in a homeless shelter, is now blossoming in front of the very eyes of football fans. The rest, as they say, is now history.
