Yunus Musah’s Father finally settled in Italy. Getting a job and accommodation in the country was difficult initially. There existed reasons why Ibrahim struggled to find work upon his initial arrival in Italy.

One reason was that Yunus Musah’s Dad never had genuine papers. Also, because of his race, being a migrant, as well as other bunch of things.

Ibrahim pressed harder and was finally able to make his way. At a time, all the hardworking man began to think about was his idea to raise a family in Italy.

Because of that, Ibrahim decided he would return to Ghana to get a wife. While there, he met Yunus Musah’s Mum.

Both Ibrahim and Amina fell in love and decided to get married and raise a family together. The couple (now man and wife) returned to Italy and started living together in Castelfranco Veneto, a small town in the northern part of the country. According to many who know Amina & Co (the local business), it was always warm, vibrant and bustling. It was a hot spot for Ghanaian people in Italy who loved eating their local African food.

Many Ghanaian neighbours of Yunus Musah’s parents would gather at his Mum’s business to talk for hours. They would not speak Italian or English but the local Hausa language. While they spoke it, little Yunus and his brothers would listen. In his words;

“I learned the Ghanaian hausa language even better that way.”

When Yunus Musah was eight, his Dad (Ibrahim) lost his job in Italy. That period was a time for the whole family as they found it hard to depend on Amina’s business as the only source of sustenance. Thankfully, there came hope from one of Yunus Musah’s relatives in London.

This extended family member found a permanent job for Yunus Musah’s Dad in London. A job that paid better than the income the family made on a weekly and monthly basis.

My Mum and Dad didn’t care if I became a footballer. They just wanted me to study hard at school and always be a good kid.

These were the words of Yunus Musah regarding his parents’ perception of his soccer career and education. So, early on, when he arrived in London, the younger was far from achieving his dreams. Yunus listed to his parents who constantly reminded him not to get too low and too high.

Career Buildup:

Yunus’ journey to becoming a pro began with a football school known as Giorgione. The academy’s full name is longe Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Giorgione Calcio 2000. Founded in 1911, this club which is based in Castelfranco Veneto, currently plays in Serie D.

Musah played for Giorgione Calcio 2000 until December 2011. On the first day he went to the training field, everyone saw that he was a kid who was extremely enthusiastic to start kicking the soccer ball. Unfortunately, on that day, there was no training session for kids in his age group.

Because there were no kids of his age to play soccer with, young Yunus became very sad. One of the club’s training coaches named Giulio Rinaldi, who saw sadness in the boys’ eyes, immediately acted. He called Yunus and asked him if he would accept to play with older boys. Of course, the youngster said yes!

From the moment he stepped his foot on the ball, it became evident to Giulio Rinaldi that young Musah was far above his peers. By meer looking at him, his slender and timid was understandable given that he was so young. It was hard for Rinaldi to ignore Musah’s natural talent

Although he always looked sky, the youngster was accepted to continue taking part in games for older boys. Yunus skills looked brilliant at first sight even though he hasn’t played football before at the academy level. In fact, the under-aged youngster scored two goals within 5 minutes of starting a football match.

Yunus Musah, The Goalkeeper:

As a young child, the youngster who played as an attacker was known to have an eye for goal and a distinctive winning mentality. Yunus helped his team to win lots of kids’ tournaments. He excelled majorly in five-a-side tournaments against other teams in Veneto.

Once upon a time, the unthinkable happened in a final match against Bassano Vicenza (an Italian Lega Pro team). Yunus Musah played as a goalkeeper. On that day, his team won the match by 5 goals to 3. Every time Musah saves the ball, he would then puts it on the ground and then begin to dribble everyone. Do you know?… He scored four goals in that match.

For those who watched him play at tournaments, his humility, attitude and sheer pleasure for the game were the greatest assets he had. Again, what impressed coaches about Yunus was his happiness and humbleness when playing. Young Musah would always smile, and it didn’t matter if his team won or lost a match.

At the time he played for Giorgione, Yunus Musah’s parents found it hard to rake him for training because of their jobs. Because the boy was so good, the coaches (who didn’t want to lose him) made it a point of duty to drive to his house to pick him up.

Yunus Musah Biography – Untold Football Story:

At the age of nine, a new chapter opened in the life of the capricious midfielder. Yunus Musah’s family moved to London in December 2011. Do you know?… the youngster didn’t like his parents’ decision to leave Italy for England.

Musah was said because he knew he had already begun flourishing with his friends and teammates in Italy. Again, he loved his mother’s shop and the whole Ghanaian community to got acquainted with his family. However, the boy didn’t have a choice.

One thing was sure for Yunus Musah, the fact that he must start over again in England. In his new environment, the youngster developed dreams of continuing his football from where he left off. Musah met new teammates, new school classmates, and he aspired to join a top club.

Joining a top academy in London (Like Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal) wasn’t that easy. In other to get discovered by scouts, Yunus began playing Sunday League in East London. Thanks to his fantastic physical attributes, drive and determination, Arsenal FC scouts found and invited him for trials.

Early adaptation:

Because Yunus Musah’s parents remained busy adults in their jobs in East London, someone in the family managed all aspects of his career. That person is Abdul, his big brother who made every part of his transition a bit easier.

Whether it was in school or at home, Yunus was always tagged alongside Abdul and his older friends. The older boys (who were small and not a threat) would let him play pickup games with them at the city’s local park. Abdul kept pushing his little brother, and suddenly, he realized that Yunus’ whole heart was glued to the beautiful game.

In Yunus Musah’s formative years, he formed a habit of kicking the ball inside his family home. Whenever he strikes the ball in the caramel-coloured tiles of his room, his Mum (Amina) would get irritated and say;

“Yunus Stop playing!”

Gone were the days when Musah’s Italian coaches would visit his home and then take him to his training sessions. In east London, there was no such thing as that. On the days when no family member cared to take  Yunus Musah to train, he would slum into his small bed and cry all day.

Yunus Musah Bio – Road to Fame Story:

When the youngster joined Arsenal Academy at age 9, he soon realized that there was tremendous pressure to succeed. Also, at that time, Yunus Musah’s school classmates began to look at him differently – with a Celebrity eye.

Yunus Musah was the Arsenal kid who placed a bet on himself at every age level. Soon, he began proving that he could compete against older boys at Hale End, London. At times, Yunus struggled, and at others, he shined. There were times he would question himself and then bounce back.

Musah observed there were lots of other Arsenal youngsters who wanted his spot. So he did his absolute best to keep it. Yunus was the type who would show up at training very early, sometimes 90 minutes before the actual time. While alone on the training pitch, he would perfect all his moves.

Constantly, Musah told himself that someone somewhere was working better than him. With these thoughts, he just keeps practising harder. Sometimes, Arsenal U-16 youth coaches (Trevor Bumstea) would have to drag him off the football pitch so he could go home and rest. In Trevor’s words;

“Even the day after games, Yunus Musah will not agree to have a rest day.”

Yunus played alongside the following names at Arsenal academy. Popular among them whose biographies we have written include the following: Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock, Bukayo Saka, Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe, etc.

Early Career Victories:

Because of his commitment to turning things around, he began to blossom behind the boundaries of Arsenal. To the joy of Yunus Musah’s Family, he (in 2016) got called to England U15. He wasn’t just a regular member of the team but a captain at the time he began with the U16 team.

Making a bold decision:

Yunus Musah grew towards being an adult; there was a part of him that, deep in his core, that held a strong view. A view that he was talented enough to crack into any professional first time sooner than many people think of him.

Around that time, there were many players (like Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke) who had started going abroad to different teams to achieve first-team football. Yunus believed it would be a quicker way to achieve his goal. Immediately, he made up his mind about initiating this bold dream.

The decision to leave Arsenal at 16 was a big gamble, something that many young players would not even consider. Musah left with no payoff but the hope of advancing to the top level of a top European team. He and his older brother, Abdul, considered many clubs before finally choosing the best fit-  Valencia.

Yunus Musah Biography – Rise to Fame Story:

The American-born footballer did not mind moving to a different country and starting his life all over again. For Musah, the rhythm of his life is always centred on moving, adapting and working. “My little brother was not scared,” says Abdul. Deep down in his heart, Yunus has always been searching for his home. A place that can make him grow and thrive.

Still, changing environment and culture and leaving behind his comfort zone was a daunting challenge. Yunus was determined to see his decision through, with the aim of proving he could jump into Valencia’s first team. In fact, he did not just stop at trying to be the best in Valencia; rather, he became the best in Europe.

Upon joining Valencia in the summer of 2019, he started with their reserve team (Valencia B-team). Yunus played in the Spanish Segunda Division B and would sometimes get called up to train with the first team. When Marcelino, the manager, left the club two months after Musah’s arrival, first-team training opportunities dropped.

A 16-year-old Yunus Musah was no longer called to train with big names like Carlos Soler, Kévin Gameiro, Ferran Torres, Rodrygo and Denis Cheryshev. To make matters worse, the boy from Arsenal suddenly stopped playing well, and he struggled to contribute in matches. When the going got tough, the son of Amina and Ibrahim asked himself these questions;

What am I doing wrong on the pitch? and What’s wrong with me right now?!

The turning point:

To solve his problems, Yunus did four things. First, he forced himself to live in the youth team’s residency accommodation. His new home was just beside the club’s training ground. By staying close to the pitch, Yunus Musah could not distance himself from all his troubles.

Next, Yunus Musah developed a habit of doing long walks and random things in the hope that it will improve his performance. Again, he constantly questioned himself on how he would be going to show that he was capable of being a first-team player under the new manager.

Lastly, Yunus dug deeper into his mind, and he realized he must rely on his faith in Allah. Islam is the focal point in the life of every member of the Musah family. So Yunus pressed on on these four areas, and suddenly, he found favour from Javi Gracia (Valencia’s then-manager).

Musah performed exceptionally well in the preseason to determine the first team roaster for the 2020-2021 season. Then, he achieved a breakthrough from his first match – an opening 4-2 victory over Getafe in September of 2020. He formed a solid partnership with top names like Dani Parejo, Gonçalo Guedes and Kang-in Lee, which led to many victories.

The USMNT Discovery:

Nico Estévez, the USA national team assistant coach, was more than intrigued when they first heard about Musah. Immediately, he (who spent eight years working in Valencia’s academy) spearheaded the move to get the youngster into the USMNT. Nico Estévez got to know about Yunus when he received a call from a former Valencia colleague who said;

“Hey Nico, Valencia had just signed a player from Arsenal. And guess what?… he was born in New York.”

Just after that call, Nico Estévez began to watch Yunus play, and he was soon mesmerized by how dynamic the youngster was on the pitch. He found that the youngster was a special talent in terms of ball security and had a very high football IQ. Then comes his physicality and the fact that his potential was even more tantalizing.

When Nico Estévez realized Yunus Musah was just 16, he knew the boy would play a key part in the USA’s plan for youngsters. Immediately, he informed the USA coach, Greg Berhalter, who also started watching and liked what he saw too.

Nico Estévez then began communicating with Yunus Musah’s brother (Abdul). Discussions were centered about the switching from England to the United States. Before an agreement was reached, Nico and Greg Berhalter requested a Zoom meeting with the members of Yunus Musah’s family, including his parents.

Rising to International Fame:

Having the USMNT Coach call him at age 17 to join the national team felt really great. When Yunus started playing with the US, the offence part of his game flowed seamlessly.

In fact, everyone felt the budding football prodigy had been playing for years. Musah’s world began to move very quickly, and he, with Matt Turner (in no time), became one of Greg Berhalter’s favourites.

Despite Musah paying his allegiance to the United States, England Coach Gareth Southgate revealed to the press that he would attempt to persuade Musah to return back to England and play for the senior team. On March 15, 2021, it became too late for Southgate as he had committed his future to the US Men national team.

Yunus Musah won his first-ever senior career trophy with the USMNT. He, alongside Weston McKennie, Jordan Morris, Josh Sargent, Christian Pulisic, Paul Arriola, etc, were among the winners of the 2019/2020 CONCACAF Nations League. Next, his name was among those named in the USMNT 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.

At the time of writing Yunus Musah’s Biography, the budding soccer prodigy has utilized his talent at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to achieve a meteoric career rise. He, Tim Weah, and Tyler Adams were top performers in the USMNT’s opening World Cup game against Wales. The rest, as we say of the Life story of the American midfielder, is now history.

Personal Life:

Who is Yunus Musah?

Yes, everyone knows he is a true globetrotter, a Baller who was born by chance in the United States. However, not many know about the multidimensional effect of Yunus Musah’s contagious smile.

Similar to Tyrell Malacia and Taiwo Awoniyi, the first thing people always notice about Musah is his smile. As lots of people have said, his smile is only infectious BUT welcoming, cheerful, welcoming, infectious and almost childish.

Getting to know the personality of the Globetrotter.

Getting to know the personality of the Globetrotter.

You’ll rarely see Musah without a smile, even when he faces the most difficult situation. Now, let’s tell you about one. When his USMNT side played El Salvador, their pitch was muddy, miserable, and rain-soaked.

Many soccer players were slipping everywhere and winding up with mud-caked faces. Many players tried to avoid pieces of metal scattered from an earlier music concert held on the pitch. On that day, Musah looked thrilled just to be on the pitch, even as he got battered by the mud.

He is just that person who brings extra joy and swagger to every soccer team he plays.

Yunus Musah Lifestyle:

Thanks to a proper upbringing by his parents, the USMNT Athlete lives a humble life despite his €‎1,502,299 annual salary (Valencia 2022 earnings). Yunus isn’t the type who fancies the idea of displaying his exotic cars, big houses, etc, on his social media space.

Two things are very obvious in our findings on Musah’s Lifestyle. First, the Arsenal Football product loves a perfect holiday life, especially at the beachside or on the water.

Something that most soccer fans admire about Musah is the fact that he has a great athletic physique. This is a testament to Yunus Musah’s amazing workout routine.

Yunus Musah Family Life:

Yunus Musah Mother:

If there is one thing the Athlete adores so much about the woman who gave birth to him, it is definitely her cooking. Yunus always smiles when asked about his Mum’s delicious food. At some moments, he always feels like returning to his childhood and sitting in his family’s kitchen to watch his Mum cook.

To this day, Yunus Musah still knows the smell of her plantain sauce, jollof rice and beans. Also, he remembers the soothing sounds of stirring, sizzling, and simmering in her kitchen. Yunus is a big fan of the doughy fufu which his Mum prepares with various local Ghanaian soups.

Initially, Amina Musah didn’t want his son to leave Arsenal for a new life in Spain. She, who couldn’t understand the whole decision, once said to her son, Abdul;

if Arsenal wasn’t kicking Yunus out, why did he want to leave the club?

But Abdul Musah, who is always in Yunus’s corner, did his best to convince his Mum. In the end, Amina understood the decision and trusted that her son was mature enough to embark on his Spanish adventure.

Yunus Musah Father:

Since his son was a boy, Ibrahim has always taught him to always practice gratitude and not to be jealous of other persons’ success. He encourages him not to look at other people in terms of where they are, and he must desist from the words;

“I wish that person should be me.”

Ibrahim Musah encourages Yunus never to forget his blessings, and he must strive to become the best version of himself. Yunus Musah’s Dad advised him never to abandon his education for soccer. Today, the proud Dad (Ibrahim) is excited to see his son succeed in both areas.

Yunus Musah Brother:

Abdul is the most popular among the siblings of the USMNT midfielder. Yunus Musah’s Big brother has the reputation of being a straightforward person, someone who does not sugarcoat things. He doesn’t hide his feelings and always can easily lash out at his little brother whenever he underperforms on the pitch.

For Abdul, people always tell Yunus about the things he did well or complement him. However, not many people try to analyse the areas he needs to improve. Musah never fails to listen to his brother’s criticism of his gameplay. This quality made his parents (Ibrahim and Amina) entrust the care of their celebrity son to his big brother.

Yunus Musah Relatives:

The USMNT utility man, born to Ghanaian parents, has established a relationship with his extended family members. Just like Inaki and Nico Williams, Yunus Musah has visited Ghana, and he is very much in love with his Ghanaian heritage.
