Growing-Up Years:

As a child, Neco Williams was naturally blessed with a passion for the round leather. As soon as baby Neco could walk, he kicked anything moulded into a soccer ball.

Lee and Emma (his parents) would buy him a Welsh football jersey, and Neco, as a kid, loved it.

The proud parents could see their boy’s future and the fact that Neco would help them re-live the Williams family’s dreams. A dream we’ll unveil to you in the family background section of this Bio.

Like a wet cement, football fell on him and it made a great impression on Neco's life.

Like a wet cement, football fell on him and it made a great impression on Neco’s life.

Neco had a good parental upbringing while growing up in Cefn-mawr, a Welsh village. The Welsh footballer spent his childhood days with three of his siblings. Taya Williams is Neco’s oldest sister (the first child of the Williams family).

Keelan Williams is Neco’s immediate younger brother. Sarae Williams is Neco’s immediate younger sister. Finally, Ocea Williams is Neco’s youngest sister – the last child or baby of the family.

Neco Williams Early Life:

Since his childhood, all he ever wanted was to play football for a living. Two of Neco Williams’ siblings (Keelan and Ocea) were no different from him.

For Neco (who led the way), had the ball glued to his feet, and everything about his career happened so quickly.

The only thing he loved as soon as he learned how to walk was playing football. Implementing his hobby didn’t just come without the help of his nuclear and extended family members.

During his early years, Neco Williams’ parents ensured they had a football-friendly home. It was a home with a small garden in the backyard, which favoured playing soccer.

Early on, Lee and Emma ensured they bought a children’s portable soccer goalpost and net set. And Neco would spend hours shooting the ball until he got old enough to play in another field close to his house.

Outside of his family home, Neco made friends whom he played football with.

Where they played the beautiful game was a perfect field, one that had two trees as the natural goalposts. Neco and his friends also marked targets on the wall with chalk for effective practice.

Back then, little Williams would always be the first person on the field and the last person to get out of there.

To avoid late nights, Neco’s parents would have to call him in when it was getting dark. He would go home, sleep and couldn’t wait to get back to the field the very next day.

In fact, the whole family and neighbourhood treat him as any normal Cefn boy whenever he returns home. Sometimes, Neco Williams’ siblings and parents have to pinch themselves to realize how proud he has made them become.

Regarding Neco Williams’ Parents’ occupation, it might interest you to know that both Emma and Lee were once amateur footballers.

In the family home, there was once a debate as to where Neco got his talent from whether it was from his Father (Lee) or his Mother (Emma).

At first, Neco Williams’ Dad (Lee) thinks his son’s talent came from. This is owing to the fact that he had lots of pace during his playing days.

On the other hand, Neco Williams’ Mum (Emma) argued that her son’s talent came from her. This is because she played as a right-back in her local women’s team – the same position her son plays.

It might also interest you to know that Neco Williams’ grandfather (Kelvin) was also a professional footballer in his time. He was neither a right-back, and he wasn’t known for his pace. Rather, Kelvin Williams was popular for his football skills during his playing days.

Neco sure knows he inherited his dribbling skills from his grandfather. If not for his grandfather (Kelvin), who broke his ankle during his career peak, he would have made it to the top of Welsh football.

This proximity is the reason why footballers from Northern Wales (an example is Harry Wilson) get easily scouted by Manchester United or Liverpool.

Robbie Savage and Mark Huges are examples of North Welsh Legends who played for Man United.

Aside from the village of Cafn Mawr, some of Neco William’s Dad’s family also identifies Porthmadog as their roots. This is a Welsh coastal town and community in the Eifionydd area of Gwynedd, northeast Wales.

Neco Williams Education:

Lee and Emma (his parents) ensured proper schooling for their kids. Back then, when Neco went to school, he would take his football along with him. He wasn’t the cleverest in his primary school, and he also wasn’t too keen on his homework.

Sometimes, Neco gets forgetful as he forgets to bring school items to his home – needed for his homework. Although there was a lack of concentration in school, Neco’s behaviour was exemplary.

Because he transferred to Liverpool as a boy, Neco experienced a change of school. Moving school was difficult as he missed his best friends – especially Kai and Keenan. Neco had known his closest pals, Kai and Keenan, since their nursery and primary schooling days.

Neco Williams high school change didn’t go down well with his old friends. But they later understood it was for the best. Neco knew that changing his high school meant making sacrifices because of football.

Career Buildup:

Neco Williams’ granddad (Kelvin) took the earliest responsibility to his career. He practically taught Neco and his brother Keelan how to play football. To this day, Neco still remembers his granddad teaching him and Keelan how to use their left foot.

Kelvin always takes the boys to training sessions and games. Back then, he helped Neco William’s parents to look after their children while they were busy with work.

Before he began playing with Liverpool, Neco first played for Cefn United from the age of six. He was a striker who wore the number 9 jersey and would score ten goals in a single match. Neco William’s parents and other family members were his biggest motivators. They were always in his match to cheer and bring the best out of him.

On a very special day, Neco William had a date with destiny. It was the day Liverpool and Manchester United scouts found him. That day, he joined his academy, Cefn United, in a tournament at Gresford near Wrexham. After the youngster became the tournament’s best player, Everton, Man United, and Liverpool began fighting for his signature.

Neco Williams Biography – Untold Football Story:

Seeing Everton, Liverpool and United queuing up to have their son was a great thing. Even though Neco Williams’ family were Manchester United fans, they took time to consider all offers. Emma and Lee Williams agreed it was best to allow their son to make the decision. With Everton taken out of the equation, Neco Williams’ parents took him to train at Liverpool and Manchester United.

In the end, young Neco made a choice on the team he preferred. Unlike Anthony Elanga, he proved his determination by choosing the Reds over his boyhood club, Man United. Neco never looked back on that decision. The same goes for Conor Bradley, who rejected Man United and skipped a year at school just to join Liverpool.

Thankfully, it turned out to be the best decision the six-year-old boy would ever have to make. Upon joining the club, Neco made friends with Curtis Jones, his teammate from the age of six.

Young Neco Williams felt very excited to choose Liverpool over his boyhood club, Manchester United. Upon joining the Reds, he kept his Number 9 shirt.

The Fatherly Sacrifice:

At the time he joined Liverpool, Neco Williams lived in his Welsh family’s house, whose address of which is Cafn Mawr. A distance of 58 minutes OR (39.8 mi) via A483 separates his Welsh village from Liverpool city.

Neco William’s parents sacrificed a lot in order to see him meet his Liverpool obligations. Back then, his Dad drove him (almost on a daily basis) from their home to the Liverpool training ground.

After dropping him off, Lee Williams would hang around and watch him train. After Neco completes his training, he would bring him back. During those moments, Emma (Neco’s Mum) would look after the family and their dance business.

Soon, Neco Williams’ brother (Keelan) followed in his footsteps and joined Liverpool. At this time, the boys’ parents (Lee and Emma) couldn’t be any prouder of their son’s achievement.

For Neco Williams’ Dad, taking Keelan to the academy meant travelling to Liverpool for more days. Back then, Lee Williams would travel to Liverpool for almost seven days a week.

No wonder, when Lee comes home, Neco Williams’ Mum would laugh, saying, “her husband came back sounding like a Scouser!” For the proud Dad, every time spent in Kirkby (for the sake of Nico and his sibling) was worth it.

Road to Fame Story:

During his teenage years, the Cefn Albion product had to make a tough decision. To enhance his development, Liverpool requested the Neco Williams family to allow their son to live in the digs. While his Dad (Lee) saw it as a good decision, Neco’s Mum found it hard to accept.

Emma Williams wasn’t just interested in letting her boy leave the family home. It got so serious that a Liverpool staff had to intervene. Phil Roscoe at the academy told Neco’s Mum (Emma Williams);

“Hello Mrs Emma, come on…, you are the last parent to approve their son’s entry into the digs.

Everyone else has let their sons to move in”

The truth is, the Williams’ family are very close, and Emma had never felt separated from her first son. In the end, Neco’s mum understood and had to let him move into Liverpool’s accommodation.

Emma Williams knew the decision was best for his football development. From age 15, Neco Williams left his family home to begin living in Liverpool full-time. At that time, Neco had stopped playing as a striker and had begun his full-back role.

Stress Fracture:

Neco improved a lot while living in a reputable football accommodation facility. However, there was a price he had to pay for pushing himself too hard. One day, Neco began feeling so much pain in his back that it forced him to visit the hospital for a scan. The result wasn’t good, as it revealed a tiny crack in one of his bones.

Neco’s medical diagnosis revealed he was suffering from a stress fracture. Because of that, Liverpool banned him from playing football for a whole six months. Being sidelined for that long was a piece of devastating news for the Welsh footballer and his entire family.

Coming back strong:

After returning from his injury, Neco continued working hard, becoming more determined. His effort at Liverpool began producing instant results. First, Neco, alongside Rhys Williams, were among the boys who helped Liverpool win the 2019 FA Youth cup. They defeated a Man City side who had big names like Cole Palmer, and Eric Garcia.

At this time, nothing was stopping him from becoming a professional.

Neco Williams Family Life:

Back at home, his face is everywhere, and they all see him on the TV, in the newspaper or online. When his Dad and Mum see him on the media, they just think…

“Oh gosh, that’s our little boy.”

As parents, Lee and Emma sometimes have to pinch themselves knowing their son is part of the Wales team going to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This section of Nico Williams’ Bio tells you more about his Mum, Dad, Siblings and extended family members. So, without further ado, let’s begin.

About Neco Williams Father:

In the family home, Lee loves to watch the game of football in the private room. He is the kind of Dad who likes to concentrate – a reason why he prefers watching alone from home. After his matches, Neco always looks forward to a video call from his Dad. Lee would analyse his game and tell him what he did right and what he could have done better.

Sometimes, the rest of his family could hear Lee Williams screaming and shouting from his room. This happens whenever Neco (who prefers to make assists) finds the back of the net. Because of COVID, it was frustrating for Lee Williams and the rest of his family, not to watch Neco’s Premier League debut against Crystal Palace.

Lee Williams does not like flying but would do so for the sake of his children. For instance, he once flew to Tokyo to watch Neco play in a tournament for Liverpool when he was around 11. The Super Dad endured 14 nervous hours of flying. Lee has also been to other distant football venues (Qatar and Switzerland, etc) to watch and support his son.

Neco Williams Mother:

Emma Jones is a businesswoman who runs the Dance Zone academy in Cefn. This is a Professional dance academy that teaches people how to dance and makes them compete in dance competitions across Wales and over the UK. The Williams family company specializes in competitive dance, fun dance/non-competitive, fitness for any age and fun gymnastics classes.

Aside from being a retired footballer, Neco Williams ‘Mum and her daughters are all elite dancers. Her family company (Dance Zone Academy) had gotten many successful dancers throughout the years. This includes world championships and British championships finalists. The Family business at Cefn Mawr, Wrexham can be reached via the phone number = +447908175873.

Moving now to football, Neco’s Mum can never watch him take a penalty as she gets too nervous. On account of Neco’s first goal for Wales, Emma Jones, while watching the games at her home in Cefn Mawr, gave an account of her husband’s reaction. According to her;

We heard Dad screaming, shouting and going mad. At that time, there was a five-second delay on our TV. From that moment we all thought that someone must have scored.
To see that it was Neco and to watch him running to the corner flag to celebrate with Gareth Bale was just another incredible moment.
Everyone in the family all went crazy,… screaming, singing and, of course, dancing.
We all ran out into the garden to celebrate, and the neighbours asked us what was happening. We shouted (proudly), “Our Neco has just scored for Wales!”

Neco Williams Siblings:

The Welsh footballer has a single brother (Keelan) and three sisters – Taya, Sarae and Ocea. This section of our Biography tells you facts about Neco Williams’s brother and sisters. So without further ado, let’s begin.

Keelan Williams – Neco Williams Brother:

Born on the 14th of November 2003, Nico Williams’ brother is also a professional footballer. Keelan Williams joined the academy of Liverpool at the age of six. Following in his big brother’s footsteps, he made progress with the Reds before leaving to join Burnley Under-18. It is likely that Keelan would play under Vincent Kompany, who manages Burnley as of 2022.

Just like himself, Neco Williams’ brother is a natural leader on the pitch. Keelan was the captain of Wales Under 18s. He is among those who have featured in the BBC Match of the Day Extra’s Wonderkids Challenge, where his biggest highlight was nutmegging the keeper.

Although Keelan is becoming popular, but back at home in Cefn Mawr, things are different. It is another member of the William family (Neco) that grabs everyone’s attention. Keelan believes his career path to first-team football would be better suited at Burnley FC.

This is the reason Neco’s brother left Liverpool on the 1st day of July 2020. Are we going to see Neco Williams’ brother (Keelan) on the Wales national team? Hopefully, Yes!!

Ocea Williams:

She is Neco Williams’ sister and also a professional football player in the making. There is a Williams family belief that if Neco and Keelan can make it, so can Ocea Williams. Neco Williams’ sister followed in her big brothers’ footsteps by playing for Cefn Albion. Meet the 11-year-old Ocea, who is proud to become the latest football star in the Williams family.

Neco Williams sister (Ocea) played for Cefn Albion U12s when this photo was taken.

Neco Williams sister (Ocea) played for Cefn Albion U12s when this photo was taken.

Just like her big brothers (Neco and Keelan), Ocea plays full-back as a defender. She sometimes battles it out with the Wrexham and District Junior League young boys. Ocea agrees she takes after her mother, who was once a footballer. However, Emma Jones doesn’t go into tackles as she does – during her days as a footballer.

Since Ocea recovered from a broken leg, she has picked up several Player of the Match awards. Neco’s sister’s comeback has been something special. After the injury, everyone thought she wouldn’t like football again. But Ocea has no fear, and she really loves being in action on the pitch. Aside from football, Ocea is also a dancer, like her Mum (Emma) and her sisters – Sarae and Taya.

Sarea and Taya Williams – Neco Williams other Sisters:

One is older (Taya), and the other (Sarea) is the Welshman’s immediate younger sister.  Together, Emma Jones (their Mum), Taya and Sarae help to manage the family company (Dance Zone Academy) in Cefn. Some time ago, the female members of the Williams family (Emma, Taya, Sarae and Ocea) competed in dance competitions across the country.

Neco Williams Uncle and Grandparents:

Finally, in his family life, we’ll tell you a few facts about the Welsh footballer’s relatives. Without using any further of your time, let’s begin.

Wynnie Williams:

He is Neco Williams’ uncle and also a brother to his father, Lee. Although Lee doesn’t like flying, he prefers Wynnie, his brother accompanying him. This is for the sake of supporting his children’s football. Together with Kel (Nico Williams Granddad), they once travelled to Japan to watch an 11-year Neco play.

Neco Williams’ Grandparents:

Kel is a Dad to one of Neco Williams’ parents. Like Lee and Wynnie, he followed Neco all over the world for tournaments when he was young. Kel helped lay the foundation of Neco’s career, which started when he played inside the family home. He guided Neco when he was a bit older (age 5) – the time he was allowed under the lights on the astroturf.

Just like the rest of Neco Williams’ family members, his granddad is a Manchester United fan. Despite his affiliation to the Red Devils, he did not stand in the way of Neco’s decision to join Liverpool. Although Neco Williams came through the Welsh setup, he qualified to play for England via Kel, his grandparents.
